Otmoor is in dangersign the petition

When we started our company we were based in Fencott, one of the Five Towns of Otmoor. We have moved around since then but still have a strong connection to "the moor".

Otmoor is an area of low lying wetland just outside Oxford. A few minutes drive from the bustling centre of the city but a haven of peace and tranquility. The moor is known for its distinctive landscape with willow lined streams, vast skies and open meadows along with its flora of orchids, Snakes Head Fritillary and the spring displays of Marsh Marigold and Cow Parsley. Still very much a rural community the people of Otmoor have a connection with their past whilst being firmly part of modern life. A special place in many ways.

However, Otmoor is under threat ... again. Destruction by the development of the M40 was headed off many years ago and the recent improvement of the railway line has had a limited effect on the moor although no change is without some consequences. The suggested development of an Oxford-Cambridge Expressway presents a new threat, not only to the peace and quiet of the corner of rural England but to the special nature of the environment that it will cut through.

The moor is ringed by the M40 London - Birmingham motorway, the A34 heading south past Oxford and the Oxford-M40 dual carriageway. All providing rapid transit from any point just beyond the moor to the Dreaming Spires so we are left wondering why a new road is needed at all. Surely information, since that must be the primary trade between the two centres, has better and faster ways of getting from A to B.

If you haven't visited the moor have a look at the work of William North, a local artist known for his paintings of the moor or at the RSPB website to understand how special this area is. If, like us, you feel that the Espressway is an unnecessary and abad idea then you can help stop it by signing one of the petitions asking the authorities to think again.

And then plan a visit. You'll be glad that you did.
